Hunkydory Pink Sapphire Delight

Welcome to the today’s craft post, as I mentioned on last week’s Mothering Sunday Card post, this post is featuring the birthday card I made for my sister in law. There is one theme I know I will be safe with and that is butterflies which is something we both enjoy. Although I have various items in my craft stash that feature butterflies, there is one collection that called to me, and that it the Hunkydory Flight of the Butterfly Jewel Edition

. To make this card, I decided upon the Pink Sapphire Delight set. Here is what else I used for the project:

Craft Stash needed

  • 8″ square white card blank from Crafts UK
  • Crafts UK Gold Mirror Card
  • Habico Signature Collection Pearl Gems
  • Gold Ribbon
  • Black 3D double-sided sticky foam pads
  • Collall All Purpose Glue
  • Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Glue

Creating the Card

The first stage was to add the background layer. I used my Cutterpillar Pro to cut the Pink Sapphire Delight cardstock to 19 cm squared, and the Gold Mirror card to 19.5 cm squared and then fastened them together with Collall All Purpose glue.I took the lighter pink cardstock with the butterflies all over it and decided to use this as an additional layer, I loosely based my design upon one of the cards made by the design team in the accompanying guide sheet. I wanted this layer to stand out too so I decided to give it a gold mat as well. The Gold Mat was cut to 19 cm by 14 cm and the butterfly cardstock to 18.5 cm by 13.5 cm.

Again I attached these layers with the Collall All Purpose Glue and then stuck both of these layers to the card blank with the same glue. I was careful to place the upper layer, so the butterfly panel to the right was displayed, but there was still a little bit of the background visible at the left as well. When it came to adding the main topper, I decided to transform it into a tag so used my Crop-a-dile Big Bite to punch a hole in it. I tied some gold ribbon from my short offcuts collection through the hold and fastened the tag onto the card with some foam pads. I used more of the foam pads to stick the sentiment down as well, so it had some lift and stood proud of the card design.

Embellishments

The finals step was to add a couple of the pearl gem embellishments to the sentiment, one either side. Then to complete the card I used my Layer perfect and added three faint pencil marks 0.5 cm’s apart to the bottom left of the card. I used a touch of Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Glue on each of the pencil marks and fastened down the finishing gems.

I was pleased with how this turned out. Adding a tag is now something I would think to do very often but it works well on this card. Do you like what I came up with?

Until next time,
Gentle Hugs,
Susan
