It is that time of year again, when people may be looking for some last minute Christmas Presents for Spoonies. Last year I put together a selection of gift ideas and I recommend you pop over and have a look at these because they are all still valid. So my job now is to come up with some more possibilities.
Buying household items as gifts is a controversial topic, the results can range from absolute gratitude to extreme upset depending upon who you ask. I recommend asking yourself how the spoonie in your life would receive the present? How much housework are they responsible for? Are there people in the house (including yourself) who could (and possibly should) be helping to share the burden? If it feels like the right thing to do here are some suggestions.
Christmas Presents Under the Tree
This Robot Vacuum Cleaner from Amazon is rated the best budget option by the onsite reviewing team, but at over £200 pounds it is a considered purchase. If your spoonie currently has to drag out a vacuum cleaner and cart it around the house, it could be an amazing gift.
Scraping in under £100 a Cordless Vacuum Cleaner like this one from Amazon may be a good compromise. A cordless vacuum is certainly on my wish list, the lighter the better. Although this is outside of our Christmas budget this year having recently moved and had a holiday.
Christmas Presents for the Stocking
A Reaching Aid like this one from Amazon my prove to be a great stocking filler. I got one in 2017 and it has proved to be invaluable for many purposes. It is currently less than £10 so a bargain.
Amazon Currently has these Pill Organiser Boxes for less than £10 also. It made a massive difference when I first got one of these, it removed the constant struggle of trying to remember if I had taken my medication. Many Spoonies suffer from Fibro Fog so this is a winner!
Pleasurable Christmas Presents
In my thinking pleasurable Christmas Presents often fall into two categories. Things like slipper boots and snuggly throws that I mentioned in last year’s post. Then presents that take personal interests into account. Here are some other suggestions for you, including some out of the box ideas.
Gifts for Spoonies Under the Tree
Once again it is a considered purchase but an iPad like this one currently on sale at Amazon would be a fabulous present. On those days when you are really struggling you can snuggle on the sofa or even stay in bed and do so much on it. I use mine for so many things, watching Netflix, YouTube or my Sky box, playing games, reading magazines on Readly, even drafting blog posts or online shopping. If you can’t run to the cost of an iPad or prefer not to use them there are various Android Tablets available on Amazon.
I have mentioned the Amazon Alexa before but they now have the Echo Show which includes a screen. This includes all the practical verbal solutions as well as the screen which lets you watch videos, follow recipes and the equivalent of screen timing. Considering there is now the option to pay in installments you can currently purchase this for £10 a month over 5 months. A great solution if your pocket doesn’t run to an iPad.
I haven’t tried a weighted blanket but I have heard many people in the spoonie community talking about them so it may be worth looking into it. This one from Amazon seems to have good reviews.
Stocking Filler Christmas Presents for Spoonies
This is such a simple idea but a great one, the Box of Favours set comes with some suggested ideas and blank ones for you to create your own. If there is one thing a spoonie needs it is help at the festive season.
I love these Spoonie Badges I have just seen on Amazon, they can be made into badges or magnets and they are made to order.
Christmas Presents for Spoonies
I hope between last year’s list and this one I may have given you an idea or two. If you have any fantastic suggestions please add them to the comments. As Fibro Warriors we all have different experiences so the more suggestions the better.
See you Next Year!
I am now going to take a break over the festive season (as my husband is on leave from work) but I will be back with my next post on the 7th January 2020. Not only the New Year but a New Decade. In the meantime you can see what I am up to on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter Accounts. If you have not already seen it you can check out my Christmas Wish for you here.
